J. Mikesell Thomas has been named president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago. He started August 31.

Thomas, 53, has an extensive background in commercial and investment banking in Chicago. From 1973 to 1994, he worked at First Chicago Corp., as chief financial officer and executive vice president and co-head of corporate institutional banking. In 1995, Thomas joined Lazard Freres & Company as managing director, where he was involved in several big mergers, including the First Chicago merger with NBD Bancorp., the Bank One acquisition of First USA, and the First Chicago NBD merger with Bank One Corp. Since 2001, Thomas has served as an independent financial advisor to companies.
